Recently, Play.com and Amazon.co.uk put up their prices for Child of Eden on PS3 and it seems something amazing has happened. The game is going to be crazy cheap!
It turns out that in the UK and Europe, the game shall have an RRP of only £19.99, half the price of the Xbox version. This is furthered by the fact that Play and Amazon have knocked £5 off that making it only £14.99 to buy and it comes with a free t shirt if you pre order from Play.com!
This could be in reaction to the low sales that the Xbox version received, getting only 34,000 in it's first month in the US. When combined with sales of Shadows of the Damned, this number was still dwarfed by Duke Nukem Forever's sales. However, US retailer Gamestop is still showing an MSRP of $49.99, exactly the same price that the Xbox version launched at so it might not be.
I think that this may be a bit of an experiment by Ubisoft: selling a game which doesn't compare to something like Halo or Gears of War, for a much lower price to see if people would be more willing to buy. While I'll admit to having not played it yet, many people have said that it's a great game, but too short to be worth the price. So it would seem selling it for much cheaper is a good idea, I'm certainly not going to complain!
